I went to a wedding yesterday.
I had known for some time that this would be happening.
Yet I did not book today off.
What was I thinking?

You were thinking that you needed to be at work so you didn't spend the next day hung over, bored, and moping around at how soon, by geological standards, it will be funerals every weekend instead of weddings, and how the likes of you and I will still be livejournalling the next day, with Jeays on repeat in the background singing 'Deathbed' and 'Catherine' instead of 'Cupid'.

I'm sorry, I've been listening to The Cure again.

I didn't even see the last line and the words "could you be more Goth?" were already forming.

I think Rodders' answer wins there. jdc's founders on the rock of my superpowers. I don't get hangovers, so long as I get enough sleep. Had I had the day off I would be getting up around now, feeling absolutely fine.

It's not just hangovers as such though, it's the emotional hangover of parties at which two people leave to a life of bitter arguments, forced public pleasantries and an acrimonious divorce always having someone to come home to and guaranteed sechs, and you go home on your own, to another afternoon of wasting your holiday allowance eating cheese. The long dark hangover of the soul.

You are being *so* goth today.
I assure you, were I home I would be contentedly watching the X2 dvd, though the cheese bit may be accurate.

Love will tear us apart (again).

I blame time spent looking at old maps.

See, two miles out and my surname could have been Estrogen.
