Dreamwidth

Why is half my friendspage posts about moving there? Have the Russian Overlords done something drastic, or is everyone just getting Gadarene on my ass in the spirit of these swinish times?

In other news: watched a bunch of Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes, and every story involved an animal as a crucial player in the crime. I'm now waiting for one in which the murderer is a quail with a blunderbuss.

The new Phonogram: I can see why everyone is getting Best Issue Ever about it, but feel less so, simply because while I can appreciate that it is an astonishingly well-constructed and resonant tale, Marc is essentially a fairly normal chap, and as such, not really like anyone I know. And a large part of why I love Phonogram is that the characters are the sort of people I might easily know.
(Really looking forward to the Mr Logos issue, though, if he gets one. He deserves one)
Gillen's contribution to this week's Dark Reign one-shot, on the other hand, is exactly the sort of thing I'm after, because the utter superciliousness of Namor...well, he's long been a role model of mine, clearly. Except for the (lack of) outfit. Peter Milligan's Loki effort and (surprisingly) Jonathan Hickman's Doom bit also very good, but I still don't really get why everyone loves Matt Fraction, and Rick Remender...well, his name sounds like 'remainder', which always put me off his comics, and this story gives me no reason to reconsider that.

right, can someone lend me some phonograms pls, so i have a clue what you're all gibbering about all the time? yes?

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
I only have the singles, so you might be better off with anyone who has the collection - a grouping which could possibly include Miller and/or Ed.

[identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, remind me when I'll see you next.

[identity profile] shewho.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
thanks dude!

I heard that Jeremy Brett was single all his life. But he wasn't gay, wasn't he?

(Anonymous) 2009-05-01 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
No. He wasn't.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Anonymous #2, because I wasn't sure about that myself. He certainly needn't have been single, though - dude's got it going on!

[identity profile] pippaalice.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought he looked gay. Maybe I have caught rubbish gaydar off you. :P

My gaydar used to work very well indeed but now I get confused.

Are you sure the anon posts aren't just some random Japanese spam that's been eerily on-topic?

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If they give the impression of being sentient commenters, I'll reply to them as such. Though now you mention it, they did come along with two Japspams and both have the same IP address...

He was Bisexual. Married twice.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
MISTER HUDSON!

[identity profile] bremxjones.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Lloyd's issue 6. It's going to be an interesting one to actually do, probably involving several days over at McKelvies with a load of prit-stick.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
If anyone else had said 'Lloyd', I'd have opened the reply 'MR LOGOS!'

And I'm most intrigued as to where Indie Dave's going.

[identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I will probably be getting a Dreamwidth account when they open up (I will not be begging for the beta codes, though) from a combination of caution/vanity/paranoia, just so that no malevolent spirit tries to get braisedbywolves.dreamwidth.com. I think I've established myself as the premier holder of that brand, I don't want anyone trying to sully it! Or, more realistically, trying to sell it to me.

[identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously I don't think they will actually survive any more than other attempts to rebuild Jerusalem in green and pleasant lands, but it would be a shame if this meant that our Russian Overlords took this as meaning that Dreamwidth's main technological advantage (splitting the concept of "is on my friendslist" into "appears on my friends page" and "can see my friendslocked posts") was something that we weren't interested in.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's been on the LJ wishlist since forever, though - I'm not sure it's enough of a USP to encourage full migration. If my friendslist seems empty, I might look into migrating. Or just get a Twitter.

[identity profile] beingjdc.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
But Barry, you already have a tw....

Oh alright, you don't. But it's a thought.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I never really got into Myspace, and I think that may have been because I started the account up myself.

And I can get the name I actually wanted. Also, shiny. And also annoyed by recent loss of friends due to the account hacking.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LJ responded to that Hotmail bug and posted the solution to [livejournal.com profile] news before I'd seen anyone affected by it; even since then, I've only noticed one casualty.
The name thing would be good given [livejournal.com profile] alexsarll was taken as a blocking measure on here, but...I'd have to start all over again!

[identity profile] p-dan-tic.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
blocking measure? erm no

it was meant to be something to do with the fact that you definatively chose to be called barry sarll rather than alex sarll (which I was proving was available), and that choice was yours alone, prioritising spoiling everyone else's fun, over having an alias you claimed you prefered.....

I never did anything with it, same way you never moved away from the arsnal fans ;)

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Except that nobody ever offered me the password for [livejournal.com profile] alexsarll, and that everybody except Peacock seemed to have tired of updating this one anyway - if anything, the subsequent explosion of [livejournal.com profile] sarlldynasty journals demonstrated that my seizing control here temporarily revitalised the gag.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Strikethrough was something of a debacle, but somehow I find the idea of a whole system run by fandom types even more terrifying. Would I risk being purged for Failure To Slash?

[identity profile] ex-humanfema327.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
come on, you could just slash a little bit. just so you can say you have. how about ron/dumbledore?

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now, it would totally be Holmes/Watson.

[identity profile] johnny-vertigen.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Fraction has his moments in Uncanny, hated his Punisher though.

I really must get that Jeremy Brett Sherlock boxed set, keep seeing it on the cheap as well. I've probably seen them all at least twice but I'm more than up for seeing them again.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'd ever have bought it, but as one of the last work freebies...well, it was good to go out on a high note. MRS HUDSON!

War Journal had a single moment which was worse than anything I've seen from him elsewhere, but otherwise was reasonably entertaining, and not so try-hard as some of his stuff.

[identity profile] drummygirl.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever it is anyway, I won't be moving over, unless I end up having absolutely no friends left on LJ. I don't want to bother exporting/importing my journal or whatever other hassle.
