Well, I may not be happy about RTD OBE bringing back you-know-what for the series finale again, but 'Midnight' was a reminder of quite how good he can be. I love plays in lifts, and SF done with hardly any special effects, and Lesley Sharp. Absolutely chilling. As for the next week trailer...bloody Hell.

I have never felt so Jerome K Jerome as I did yesterday, stood by the Thames at Marble Hill Park.

Last night I dreamt that I accidentally beat both Kelvin MacKenzie and David Davis to become the new MP for Haltemprice and Howden, after my friends put my name on the ballot for a joke.

For a Friday 13th, that one was replete with good news. A cloak of silence looks to be possible, the RAF's fine tradition of moustaches has been defended, and the Irish wisely used the chance our leaders denied us to give the EU not-a-constitution-honest the trashing it so richly deserves (not that the Eurocrats will pay any attention, obviously, but the gesture's still important). Plus, my favourite film writer, David Thomson, chose the day to go off on one of his more spectacular reveries, this time about lovely Angelina Jolie. Of whom I should also note - apparently Wanted isn't going to be the total travesty I was led to expect.

Where did you go via? Your text seemed a little drunken. :P

Also I am not sure how much I liked Dr Who this week. The actual idea was excellent but I do not understand the ending or indeed what actually happened. Bah.

Fvck knows, somewhere further East than made sense given I was trying to go from West to North.

It was more a mood piece than something I can necessarily explain, but what did you not understand?

What line did you use? your predictive text did make it quite hard to understand. :P

I don't get why the aleing made the doctor be all controlled and I don't get why it couldn't move. Or indeed why it was repeating stuff. Or speaking in Italian.

Basically it appears that whilst I enjoyed it I did not understand anything at all.

Also I didn't like it when the doctor kept going OH I AM SO CLEVER LOOK AT ME. It made me want to punch him.

I liked bin girl's appearence though. Poor Rose.

I don't have predictive, that was just me mistyping 'there' ie Stamford Hill.

The Italian & French were just phrases the Doctor uses. The not moving...I don't know, maybe it just found that took longer to get used to than speaking.

The stuff where he was saying how clever and special he was, I think that was meant to be irritating, to show how in a situation where he doesn't manage to effortlessly take control, the Doctor could instead come across as really annoying.

Where was bin girl in the episode proper? 'Cos I saw that she was credited, but I only noticed her in the trailer.

Yes that makes sense. I may watch it again and try to not be annoyed.

She was on the screen that had stopped working shouting Doctor Doctor. I got very excited.

Oh my life I totally missed that. From the look of next week's, I'm not sure I can cope.

It was the same bit of footage they'd used in Poison Sky. It was shot for this ep, but dropped into TPS at the last minute in post.

I did like that, actually - the Doctor not being in control and not really dealing with it all that well.

And judging from the trailer, next week will very much be building on that.

I thought the Italian and French phrases might have been the Doctor fighting back.

Was that an RTD episode? I suppose it explains the clunkers in the plot (if this thing lives on the planet, then shooting it back out onto the planet's surface is hardly likely to kill it, is it?), but otherwise... an RTD episode I enjoyed? Blimey!

This is the problem - he's made sufficient boo-boos of sufficient size that people forget quite how good he can be when he's on form. As to the science...I can apply Nerd Polyfilla and say that once it had incorporated itself into human form, it could be at least temporarily stopped by the destruction of that form (the Doctor seems at the end to feel that a threat still exists on Midnight, whether from the same entity or its kin). But frankly, Who science has always been a bit ropey; as a rule, if I notice how bad the science is it's either bad beyond the allowed limits, or more frequently the episode has other, greater weaknesses. If I can see problems with how the magician's doing his trick, the real problem is that his patter and misdirection are sub-par.
