Cheerio Ming, you backstabbing, boring b@st@rd. Don't let the door catch your arse on the way out, eh?

Who knows, now I might even have someone to vote for at the next general election!

Can you remember (I can't) the last time a leader "was resigned" outside of the USSR? Why didn't Ming make a resignation statement? Where is he, in fact?

He turned to dust after being impaled by Lembit Opik's spaceship - though a mysterious hand was seen picking up his specs from the ashes.

I'm reminded of something a Lib Dem MP (Beith?) said in the leadership election before last - "There will be no winners if we turn this election into a personality contest".

It has to be said, watching their MPs on News 24 after telling Robin the news, they're not exactly a party overwhelmed by charisma, are they now?

Clegg is all charisma, but suffers from being a Cameron clone, it'd be like they're copying a copy of Tony, degenerating a little with each replication.

On top of which, I have my own suspicions when it comes to anyone called Clegg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleggs).

Thank christ for that. Now, have they got anyone who can catch up the 10% he lost the party?

Oh man, can they not get the actual asteroid to do it instead? Carried aloft on the shoulders of Patrick Moore? THAT would get my vote.

Vote THE GALACTUS PARTY: because this planet's on the way out whatever you do, and at least this way someone gets lunch.

His resignation mirrored his time in charge of the Lib Dems - a bit of a non-event really. (Though t would have been even more humiliating for him had it not happened on a slow news day).

The terrifying thing was that acting leader Vince Cable came across as an even less compelling Ming.

At least none of the various no-hoper Tory bosses were quite such obvious traitors to their predecessors as Ming.

So, I take it you never believed Ming's protests of innocence when he became leader following the demise of his alcoholic predecessor?

No doubts that Charlie K was stabbed in the back, but I never thought Ming was the guilty party, or even terribly complicit. As Charlie K's demise became inevitable I think Ming actually did a fine job of limiting the damage. The damage was terrible, but it could have been fatal.

I am sorry to see Ming go. I hope they don't choose Huhne. My guess is that it was Chris Huhne....in the ballroom....and he was using...he was using...the la la la l'la la la la la l'la lead piping.

With WCK ruling himself out and Opik unmentioned, I must admit that the field is pretty uninspiring.
