Well, that was a rather splendid Stay Beautiful, I thought. A real party atmosphere to it, our two rare visitors from the Celtic fringe, the 'SB's Greatest Hits' playlist which was almost too much (in the manner of Club Popular for Manics fans, pretty much). And, of course, Paul St Paul & the Apostles. Now I'm not sure they're something I'd listen to at home (I have a deep ambivalence towards disco, it's a long and not particularly interesting story but suffice to say, this is one of the rare cases where I accept that it's just a disconnect between me and a style, not any fault in the style itself) but they really know how to put on a show. And I do mean show; I didn't catch all the details but they give the impression that they're starring in the stage musical version of their own career, which is clearly ace. An ideal get-the-party-started band, too. So it's just a shame that for some reason I was too tired to get the best out of all this and had to leave before the end. Still, I slept the sleep of a dead, just log once I got home.

I don't think it was the Tube Walk earlier which had tired me, since it wasn't a particularly long one (fnarr fnarr) and even by our standards it was a leisurely (some might say shambolic) progress. Still, I suppose we did inadvertently sneak in the back of the National Blood Service, find an ace abandoned asylum complex and then pass the Centre For Infection (which would be sinister enough even if it couldn't also be fairly called the Great Pyramid of Colindale), so who knows what exotic lurgies my system is currently fighting off? Burnt Oak/Colindale/Edgware is a desolate, deflated sort of place, combining aspects of suburbia and the poorer London high streets; I don't think I'll be going back there in a hurry. Well, except maybe for the abandoned asylum.

Grenada, I salute you.

I wondered how I managed not to see you there... but I guess if you went home early then maybe I wasn't around. I agree it was a Greatest Hits night in the best possible way. It strikes me as fascinating and weird and kind of cool that the reason I went to the first ever Stay Beautiful was because you said to me 'My friend's putting on this club and you'll really like it' or some such thing and gave me a flyer (which I still have in an old notebook)... I'm sure that's the reason I went. My life would be quite different had I never gone. x

Really? I don't think I ever knew that! And it wouldn't just be your life that would be different, it would be the club too - you were astounding on stage last night.

I think I was there 'til around 1? But it was so full and so lively that there were plenty of people I only saw once in passing and then lost in the whirl.

Yes, I'm virtually positive that you told me about it, in fact I can vividly remember the conversation. And probably have it written down somewhere!

It was packed, wasn't it. Apparently it was at capacity at 11 and then re-capacitied around 1. My English Lit student who has just got into Kings to read SPS came and loved the club so much! I have to tutor him on Wednesday...I feel our relationship will never be the same again.

I thought it was a really celebratory eve. x

It'll be like in Buffy when they all saw Giles doing his singer/songwriter bit...

Now you say that it makes perfect sense, but somehow I'd never put two and two together. I feel honoured to have helped put you and the night in touch!

I left after 1 and I'm sure you were still there.

Well OK, what I meant by that was 'the last point at which I recall checking the time while still in SB was about 1'.

It is indeed. The Wales Millenium Centre and Water Tower, as photographed by me, one week ago.

Did you get one of That Paving Stone too?

I love that Torchwood is meant to be part of Cardiff's reinvention as a 21st century metropolis, but instead means that I will only ever view the city as the set of a Doctor Who spin-off.

Yep: http://pics.livejournal.com/kiss_me_quick/pic/000gbqp8/g28.
The rest of my Cardiff pics are here - lots of Torchwood and Doctor Who-related sights.

I will only ever view the city as the set of a Doctor Who spin-off.

And the set of Doctor Who itself, of course. And not just the episodes that are meant to be set in Cardiff.

I just watched Rise Of The Cybermen and was trying to recognise where it was filmed.

I could forgive them the sets in that one, since it was meant to be an alternate London. Though there were many other things I found harder to forgive about it...

It was about two as I left shortly after you because I look silly dancing on my own and I didn't know hardly anyone left.
