No offence to drummers, but upon hearing that Suede's Simon Gilbert was in a new band, I was only very mildly interested. More fool me, because judging by 'Talk of the Town' Futon are actually brilliant - literally and figuratively gay electropop, but with enough bite to stop them being just another vaguely naughty synth act. Anybody know if they've had any British releases?

"Campaigners say it should be a criminal offence to demonise a child"? They've obviously not known some of the children I have, then. Though in all seriousness this is another one of those situations where I'm in a difficult position, given I believe both that a) the vast majority of children denounced as witches or possessed are nothing of the sort and b) that some small number of children, whether through demonic agency or otherwise, are indeed creatures of pure evil.

Garth Ennis' brilliant The Boys is cancelled, effective immediately. This is almost unheard-of in comics, where publishing decisions tend to be made at least three months in advance, but then it was really pushing the envelope in terms of cynicism, gore and filth in a superhero book. Happily, since it was creator-owned, we should get to see the rest of it from another publisher at some point. DC - you suck.

Well, basically, right, it should be a criminal offence to tell someone that they should harm or kill their child, when you have sufficient influence to actually make them do it. Or anyone else, for that matter. I would be willing to bet that group a) [children supposedly posessed] and group b) [children actually evil] barely overlap at all, so.

Yes but what if the child actually is a threat? I believe this was the theme of the award-winning We Need To Talk About Kevin. Not that I've read that, I'm just thinking of a couple of my relatives. And for all that my definition of 'evil' and that of the average mad pastor have their fairly major differences, I reckon they'd be with me here.

Well, if the child is prevented from having access to weapons, how much of a threat can it be? I mean, Jasmine can be quite vicious, but if she was murderous I could still break her arms before she could strangle me, you know?

I downloaded loads of Futon albums a couple of years ago. Browse the usual networks. If memory serves, 'Never Mind The Botox' is the best album as it has 'Gay Boy' on it.

(to a stolen Bowie 'Heroes' refrain)

"I...I can be gay
And you... you can be led astray"

As to whether they've had any officail UK releases, I have no idea.

Dude, I may be online at home now but I still have not the least idea how Naughty Downloading works. All the MP3s I've been grabbing are legit!

Sadly, when I last went to see Futon they'd gone all indie-schmindie.

Really? Yeah, I only really remember the first album grabbing my attention. Gilbert must have infected them somehow. Wikipedia only lists them as having two albums, but I'm sure I've got much more than that on a disc somewhere. Possibly my mind is playing tricks? Wouldn't be the first time...

Yes, I saw yours&David's post - that was part of what reminded me to check their Myspace. But presumably the stuff up there must be pretty recent? And that's all at least moderately good, and sometimes aceness!

Why bother having a separate imprint if you're going to hold all the titles to some sort of DC standard?

It's happened before - the Millar Authority censorship at Wildstorm, fiddling with early Vertigo books (including bans on stuff now widespread there - eg nipples), and one issue of Promethea being censored. But admittedly those were all tweaks, edits &c - never outright, instant cancellation.

It's particularly idiotic coming from the same company which thought the way to revamp their main line was to have the Elongated Man's wife raped and killed.
