Just when I thought Battlestar Galactica couldn't get any more topical...

Passed a bunch of Stop The War cretins today, as it happens; apparently Blair was addressing some conference at the hotel opposite the Argos where I was making a vain attempt to purchase CDRs. 20 or so of them, rather feebly bellowing "Why aren't you in parliament?" when he wasn't even there yet. Well, the Prime Minister has always had responsibilities which take him away from the House at times, besides which, he still has a better attendance record than your bumchum Galloway, you despicable peons.

Cylon sounds like a washing powder.

I'm never sure if you are a Tory or a radical lefty, Alex. My opinion oscillates wildly in the length of one of your journal entries.

I think the whole Left/Right idea has outlived most of whatever usefulness it once had, not least because of the way the mainstream Left has so totally lost its way over Iraq, al Qaida &c (http://books.guardian.co.uk/extracts/story/0,,1995160,00.html). I believe in the greatest liberty for the greatest number, and I believe in protecting that liberty with whatever means are necessary up to and including summary execution; a vaguely hippyish utopia protected by Judge Dredd, if you will.

The problem being, this leaves all the extant parties as far too soft for me on some matters (failure to hang Islamic fundamentalists) and way too hardline on others (drugs laws, &c). In general I've tended to vote UKIP in European, Green for locals and Lib Dem in generals, but I'm not voting Lib Dem again while Ming is in charge. And I even voted sort-of-Labour for Mayor, ie Ken, though I am sure as Hell never doing that again, dreadful man that he's become this term.

Was Galloway there for the Iraq debate?

Which one? The last time he voted in the Commons on *anything* was on Iraq - and that was on 31st October last year.

Really? Brilliant. I had no idea he was quite that bad. Doubtless his adoring fans justify this on the grounds that if he entered the House the evil Zionist warmongers would get him, or something equally moronic.

Until Mr Burke's comment I had no idea, but had assumed he was off on a lecture tour or similar grandstanding, like that time his absence actually prevented a defeat for the government, when I believe he was speaking in Ireland. Cheers for that, Georgie - you may be evil, but at least you're useless with it!

Take it you've read those rather ace excerpts on the Observer site from Nick Cohen's book about how the Left lost its way, btw? If not, link in the reply to Anna.

But of course. I always buy The Observer. Looking forward to gettign the book too. Cohen's looking old though, isn't he?

I'm just about to start on The Caged Vrigin, btw.

The amount of flak the poor brave sod has been getting, I'm not surprised!

(Also, where do you find the time for a Sunday paper? I've still not read even the interesting segments of Saturday's)

But even when I stay in all day, I never find myself craving more newsprint.

Were you not familiar with that one? It was pretty ubiquitous in the playgrounds of late eighties Derbyshire.
