Right, so now the hotspot does work in the day after all, meaning getting our own broadband is essentially pointless - and I only discover this after ordering, of course. Gah!

Now I have time to pay a little more attention to such things, I note that icon space has been expanded from 15 to 45, and I have not the least idea what to do with the 30 vacant slots. Well, that's not entirely true, because I recall wanting one of Bill Bailey as Manny on too much coffee, with the words "Just one cop, trying to make a difference" - though I haven't the first idea how to make such a thing, and on reflection I'm not entirely sure when I would use it.

We've known this was coming for at least a decade, but apparently "China will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women by 2020". So assuming they don't fancy any more outright culls of their own people (so twentieth century, comrade!), I reckon that leaves the Party with two choices; get aggressive in their foreign policy, or get aggressive in their promotion of male homosexuality.

Confused By Headlines Corner: having already been disturbed by the news that Alan Grant had been found guilty of rape in the unappealingly named Mold Crown Court, and briefly panicked that it might be the Alan Grant, I took the link Gravel for President to be satire. After all, a heap of small rocks could hardly do a worse job than Dubya.

Anyway, I only turned this on to play MP3s while getting dressed for the Tubewalk, so Over And Out.

They should marry them to all those Russian women who we keep being told "want husbands."

45 icons though? I have trouble remembering to even use the ones I have!

In the abstract, sure, but if Chinese culture had enough respect for women for that to be viable, they wouldn't have got into this mess in the first place - because those are not natural statistics. Whereas a manly, Spartan/Victorian style 'higher love' gay culture...I can see them buying that a lot more easily.

The problem with Mike Gravel is that his slogan "Let the people decide" could turn round, eg: "We are the people, and we've decided we don't actually want you."

'We've decided we like gravel, but strictly for driveway surfacing. So, if you'd just lie down here...'

China has no one to blame but itself, start allowing women to have more than one child for starters.

Agreed on the first part, but not so much the latter. The problem is selective abortion and infanticide (or at best, keeping girl babies off the record) rather than the one-child policy itself - which without such fuckwitted cultural prejudices around it, would be a fine plan. Because unless and until we get a serious space programme going this planet is seriously overcrowded, and some brake needs to be put on the population explosion.
