alexsarll: (merlot)

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Ah, I love introducing new marks to Firefly. It's always Wash that hooks 'em, and once they've seen that, they're in. Bwahahaha. However, I have now lost what little understanding I possessed of how my TV, DVD, video and magic TV box are connected, after unplugging the SCART somehow improved the picture. For all I can tell the bloody thing's running on fungal technology or something.
Oh, and Tesco plastic booze isn't quite up there with lovely plastic merlot, but it's not bad. But for more on that, see the internet's premier ruin community, [livejournal.com profile] omgeleven.

Yesterday's Quark session was largely about pictures, but we only had three on the system, one of which was a very dull one of a model. So after I'd exhausted the possibilities of making Gordon Brown look like he's singing 'Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn't Have Fallen In Love With' or asking Johnny Rotten's last question, it was on to...the mosque. Turn it upside down, create a new pink called Gay and use that for the border? Don't mind if I do. I then incorporated it into quite the mosy unreadably over-designed page you ever did see. I can now sympathise a little more with every over-designed magazine I ever read...once you start playing, it's hard to stop.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, US Vice-President Dick Cheney will not face criminal charges in relation to shooting a man in the face.

Singer-songwriter Ryan O'Reilly can never be as interesting as his namesake, even if his band is called The Raindogs. I bet he's never even heard of his namesake, or his band would be called something like Killer Retard Brother instead.

Yay Firefly! Must remember to order DVD of fillum from USnia. I quite like Kaycee, but she doesn't have the dinosaur stuff going on.

Aw, Kaylee is just adorable. Awww, Kaylee! If only [livejournal.com profile] insecuregoddess were in work, she could chime in with her 'shiny!' icon around now.
Does the film have much in the way of extras?

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes but I erroneously assumed that you also had better things to do today than tart around online!

[identity profile] pippaalice.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
DUR! I don't even PAY for this phoneline... ;)

Though I am now off to listen to the eurovision Dr Who Audio. DUDE!

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Geeeeeeeek! ;p

[identity profile] suicideally.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I have nothing to say, but wish to chime in with my Wash icon.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
In this context I think that's entirely legitimate.

[identity profile] electrodeserter.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
To answer your question, yes: Joss commentary (a bit crap, actually, though it does contain one good joke), an unexpectedly lengthy clutch of quite good deleted scenes w/optional Joss commentary (about 15 minutes' worth), some silly outtakes, a pointless Joss-to-camera introduction, and four "featurettes", one of which is only for the British release and wasn't on the American version. Huzzah.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Top stuff!

[identity profile] hospitalsoup.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Mr Sarll, the vision of you gleefully turning a mosque upside down has just cheered me up considerably, many thanks.

[identity profile] thermaland.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Does it go "mooooo!" when you do that?

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I recall. Should it?

[identity profile] thermaland.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you know, I'm thinking of those toys that go "mooo" when you turn them over. Do they not have this in the UK? Anyway, that's it, no punchline.

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, that rings a bell, yes.

[identity profile] thermaland.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No it doesn't, it moos like a cow. I just explained this!

Meanwhile an occasion came at last to use all my wonderful cow icons and I p1ssed it away. Oh I am so past it.

You must go now Thermaland. And never return. You have shamed us all.

Who knew that James Ward still had the [livejournal.com profile] barrysarll password after all these years...

Dick Cheney

Man, I so want to become a US high-ranking politician now...

The Daily Show response to the Dick Cheney thing was beautiful, if you get an opportunity to watch the things online, do.

I watched some of last night's but yeah, I heard that the one before was absolutely golden. I mean, I know Jon Stewart has a very easy job, but he does it so well!

It began with him introducing the story and then raising his eyes to the ceiling and mouthing 'thank you Jesus!'

People love Wash first of all? But he's the boring one! (Except for Kaylee who is adorable but never gets a decent plot. I haven't seen the film yet though and hope they rectify this.)

[identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com 2006-02-17 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
For me the beauty of Firefly is that there is no 'boring one'! But as much as I love them all, I'm not really playing favourites here - I just think that, in the first episode, the bit with the toy dinosaurs is the moment where you realise this isn't just good SF, this is utter genius.

And Kaylee gets a nice dress and goes to the party and impresses everyone and awwwwww, I want to hug her.

(In 'Shindig', I mean, I'm not spoilering the film - but the film is ACE)

This book was mentioned in the JC this week, thought you might like it.

Guess Who...

The name is definitely familiar, I must have read at least an article by said sensible chap before.
