What a deeply peculiar Love Your Enemies that was. Realising that my drink - Olde English Gaymer - was also a self-description. Being used as an exemplar for [livejournal.com profile] miss_newham's education in DJing (poor girl). The amazing [livejournal.com profile] katstevens Pedal, capable of turning any music into BOSH except if you play Pulp's Mile End, where you'll instead get the Local History Mix. And to cap it all, Steve Lamacq, who so far as I can work out was present by mistake but seemed rather taken with it nonetheless.

Reason Number 6,412 Why Frank Miller Rocks: "Continuity is the hobgoblin of small minds. But Elektra is still dead."

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] darkmarcpi for this: it turns out that one reason Iran et al are convinced Zionists control the media is that they need Israeli technology to propagate their own vile anti-Semitism. 'pwned!', as I believe the young folk say.

What are the odds of reviewing two books in a row, in completely different genres, and having them both contain quotes from obscure singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock?

In my dream last night, someone not unlike [livejournal.com profile] hoshuteki tried to convince me that China was actually no bigger than Wales - just very crowded.

Was Steve Lamacq there?

I missed that completely.

Yes he was, during my set. I don't imagine that was the only thing you missed...

Whilst there's something undeniably funny about the Iran printing thing, part of me finds a parallel with e.g. Nazis getting Jews to herd other Jews into the gas chambers. I know it's not exactly like that, but my amusement at the story is tempered by a slight unease nonetheless.

Still...it'd be a great question to put to the Iran PM on their equivalent of Newsnight or Question Time, if there is such a thing.

I think because I'm in a good mood today, it's 'ha ha ha, dumbass Iranians getting milked by the very people they're trying to attack!' Whereas were I having a bad day it would be 'o noes, shortsighted Jews assisting in the attacks upon themselves!'

That Frank Miller interview is great. I still can't get my head around his All Star Batman And Robin though. I think it may be the worst thing he's ever done.

I'm not loving it, but nor is it as bad as a lot of people seem to think. Each issue has at least one moment of "YES!" - and I'm thinking that, this soon after DK2, he must have some agenda we've not seen yet - it's hardly likely that he's just randomly lost his grasp of the character he defined so perfectly.

Wow! Is that including the Kate Bush cover for knowing the original?

I didn't include Cloudbusting, that would make it seven if I could. I don't think I liked it though.

Never Let Me Down Again - Depeche Mode

I did! Well technically Ewan did. I'm not sure what I did with the prize. Or what the prize was. Oh dear.

No, that would have been "your new 'friend' the barman"!

I can't believe I didn't notice the Future Bible Heroes song! It was probably playing while I was too busy grumbling "I can't believe he hasn't played any Magnetic Fields!". And I apologise for accidentally throwing your [livejournal.com profile] martylog CD cover to the floor.

And also, Steve Lamacq???

Yes! Amazing that people could miss him in such a small venue, really.

The CD cover seems not to have suffered for the experience, so I wouldn't worry.

Steve Lamacq> just mentioned the club on the radio: arriving, standing around, buying a drink, standing around some more, asking the DJ when the band was on, and being told it was the previous night :)

Right, so it was MJ Hibbett he was after! I guessed it might be. Cor, I've just been mentioned on 6Music, now I feel like all the cool kids in bands.

Lamacq just mentioned his hilarious turning-up-on-the-wrong-night adventure on 6Music. Irritatingly, he didn't have the good grace to give LYE a plug, mind...

Partly my fault - he did ask, and seemed keen, but I didn't have any flyers or anything on me. Best I could do was give him a business card and tell him to email me for the details, I couldn't even remember the bloody Myspace address.
