And I won't be playing 'Here Comes The War' or 'Armageddon Time Is Here'. Although that's because I only have them on tape.

While you have your diaries out, Baxendale spin-off Alexander's Festival Hall are playing a free show at the lovely Battersea Barge on Sunday, with Piney Gir. Anyone else fancy it?

Those of you who don't, Johnny Boy are DJing at the Lock Tavern that day. Oh, and for all that I disapprove of the concept of Guilty Pleasures, they have Jarvis Cocker, Steve Mackey, Pete Wiggs and Lawrence DJing at their February 25th event.

Me! me! me! What time? AFH haven't played for bloody ages!

Indeed. And when they have, it's generally been at places I don't like! Conveniently, this runs from 5.30 'til not-that-late.

Aceness. See you there.

Bah, I'm logged in as the wrong journal, aren't I. I'll see you there, my dissertation won't.

Who knows, perhaps the evening will provide you with some relevant insights!

Is it just me who looks at that icon and sees a tequila worm rendered ZX84 style?

Heheh! Certainly hadn't occurred before you mentioned it. I usually see a toppling tower of blocks.
I really should make my own icons and stop leeching off other people. These were one of the first Google Image results for 'playful'...

One better than me - I generally nick an image, then get my lovely assistant to iconise it for me.

Possibly. I was just thinking about Baxendale the other day.

You forgot to mention that I'm doing the door for LYE this month. This alone provides your clientele with an adequate reason to attend.

I really liked Baxendale but I don't know if I'm going to be in town this Sunday. Is the Battersea Barge actually in Battersea, though? That might be too convenient to miss, if so.

Sort of. It's on the river behind one of the big buildings (maybe FedEx?) on Nine Elms Lane.

But I've plugged against my own attempt to raise a posse for Sunday too! It's all part of pluralist society, or something.
Though granted, I've not mentioned either of the other events of merit happening on Thursday...

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what's going on there. But given that last month's equivalent to this post was a protracted exercise in getting the thing online at all, this is still progress of a sort.

yes I know. My fault, I just couldn't be bothered to change it since I am at work and meant to do some semblance of work. (I had to do a screencap of a word document ftb that was what was sent to me.)

I hadn't seen any these replies, and foolishly just spent nearly 20 minutes faffing in Photoshop. The results, as they always are in any task involving me and Photoshop, are somewhat poor in that the Word one still looks better.

As Jamie points out, that was due to a misguided attempt to (subtly) render it in Tottenham colours... messed up by the inclusion of the stubbornly non-fitting WCK pic. Where's that from, anyway?

I was just thinking in terms of the place being absolutely rammed with casual fans of That Sort of Thing but actually, Pulp haven't been trendy for about 8 years have they. TBH there's probably more danger of drowning in nindie Felt fans. Never liked Felt.

Date: 2006-02-07 05:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com
Yeah, the last Pulp stuff wasn't even available in train station record shops. People will still dance to 'Common People', sure, but that's about as far as it goes for most of them.

I like the Orlando cover of a Felt song.

Back in the early/mid-90s, I worked in a couple of bookshops (both since closed down). Lawrence would come in, we'd chat for a little while (he's not the biggest conversationalist), and then I'd let him nick whatever books he wanted. In return, he'd give me a package of Denim stuff when each album came out. I still have the CDs, but gave away the vinyl, and have mislaid the badges and sew-on patches. We lost touch about 10 years ago, but it's good to know he's still around, as I believe he's had a long-running...er..(consults legal dept)..habit - but maybe this is now common knowledge. To this day, I've never heard any Felt (he claimed not to have any Felt records to give me).

I also remember him once telling me (I forget why) about his circumcision. But that's probably TMI.

Hello. Why do you disapprove of the concept of Guilty Pleasures, and is it the sort of thing that sells out?

Date: 2006-02-08 10:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com
a) Because while dallying outside the canon, by implying that such dalliances should induce guilt, it covertly reinforces the concept of the canon. And it doesn't even do what it claims to do very well - cf Pricey's account of having some of his DJ selections there vetoed by Rowley.
b) Not certain, but I think it might be.

The 25th was the Guilty Pleasures night, Johnny Boy was the same day as AFH - Sunday 12th. Whether having missed it by longer makes you more irked or less, I don't know. But anyway...the information wasn't from a Johnny Boy-related source (their uselessness re: the website is indeed most vexing), I'm afraid; it was from the Lock Tavern, who send me listings because listing clubs is my job. So if you should find a Johnny Boy list/community/site, please let me know, because I could use one too!
