Now Catterick's done (ending with its best episode), and with Who ending on Saturday, I think I'm going to be left without any TV commitments for a while. Medical detective drama House is based around a promisingly sardonic and misanthropic performance from Hugh Laurie - but the American accent he's sporting makes it all feel too much like a Fry & Laurie sketch without a punchline, the set-up's too cliched, and there's no realistic way I can regularly watch a programme whose pilot featured a woman with a tapeworm in her brain. Sugar Rush shares the strong central performances - but also, alas, the sense of having seen all this before. Still, at least it's tapeworm-free.

Meh! I cannea make Devant. I'll be in Italy that weekend. Still, they played the best set ever in Brighton. Madame Devant, Big Man, Slip It To Me etc. If the Buffalo BAr jig is just half as good as that, you'll be heaven.

The OC was a tricky one - I knew from when it started that I'd get addicted to it, but also get annoyed with it. And when I recently read an interview with the creator, about the ways in which the network had forced him to compromise, I realised I'd guessed right - the OC he *wanted* to make is the one I'd like to watch.

He said that he wanted characters to drink or not, have sex or not, take drugs or not just as something that happens, rather than as Issues. Exactly as kids do in real life, and exactly as they don't on TV and particularly American TV.

I keep missing the OC and never have a clue what's going on, but Marisa is too painfully skinny for me to bear watching for most of that time. Seth is an indie loser and in REAL LIFE he would just spend all his time talking on livejournal like a geek. The best character is probably the evil ginger lady who is Marisa's mom, sorry, mum.

julie (marisa's mum) is pure class. i used to hate ryan, but i've been back-tracking and watching the large portion of season 1 that i missed, and he's a sweetie really.
