Sometimes, watching old film footage, you see faces that you could have seen in the street earlier, but often there are faces which you realise don't look like faces you see anymore. Except, of course, that every now and then you do see such a face, and realise what an anomaly is. There's a moment of this in Sin City, when Dwight says that Marv isn't crazy, he's just living in the wrong time. And yesterday, I saw a man with a seventies face. Not seventies clothes, or seventies hair - just a face which looked like it belonged in a bad sex comedy (if that's not tautologous).
Spent yesterday evening in a strange but pleasant pub; there seemed to have been a community there once from which only this pub (and the church into whose graveyard its beer garden bled) had escaped the Luftwaffe and the town planners. Granted, we did end up re-enacting Shaun of the Dead except with morris dancers instead of zombies, but on the whole it was just what you want from a pub - oldmannish, but not unwelcoming. On the Tube home, I was discussing this with
dr_shatterhand, who contrasted it to Wetherspoon's - which, he noted, often lapsed from being cheep and cheerful, into making you feel that you were drinking with murderers.
A few stops later, at H&I, a drunken woman leaving the train tapped me on the shoulder and mumbled forcefully that Wetherspoon's drinkers "aren't murderers, we just don't like [adjective] cvnts like youse two".

The new Gorillaz album features appearances by Simon 'The Verve' Tong, Neneh Cherry, De La Soul, Ike Turner, Roots Manuva, Martina Topley-Bird, Shaun Ryder and DENNIS BLOODY HOPPER. There is no mention on the outside of the case of any of their presences, which impresses me even more.
Another crack in the wall between fact and fiction as a virtual item ends two real lives.
edit: Forgot to plug Poptimism at the Polar Bear tonight. Come dance to pop music and drink cheap booze! Not that I shall be doing the latter, for I am straight-edging it.

Anyway, I am being stalked by that little protegé/copycat one, whom I have named JEESUS CHRYSE man (does that one have a name). He is somehow a pathetic version of Sinner/Winner who generally seems a bit scared to use his megaphone.

Date: 2005-06-09 10:34 am (UTC)The best (meaning worst) I ever saw was the one with the big board up above his head on which he had magnetic letters arranged to spell out homophobic assholism. I always hoped that he'd one day stand near enough to an upper window that someone could rearrange his board to read 'TAKE ME NOW, BIG BOYS, AND TAKE ME ROUGH' or similar.

Except I'm not allowed to talk about comics any more given the comments on my own journal...
