There is some TV which will never, ever pall. But what's really puzzling is how much of it was written by Ben "Musical based on the songs of Phil Collins" Elton.

England's Lost Eden makes passing reference to a Stoke Newington Swedenborgian named Reverend Augustus Clissold. One wonders whether Clissold Park was named after him, and if so, whether he was known as Reverend Augustus Cl1tor1s by his associates.

[Poll #447704]

Those of you resident in North London will probably be aware of the delightful Parkland Walk, a disused railway line which has become a nature reserve. What I didn't know, until my botanically-inclined father took a stroll along it, is quite how biologically diverse it is. There's stuff there normally only found on the South Coast, because London's warmth makes up for a few extra degrees' Northern-ness. And eucalyptus! So should you ever find yourself stuck in Highgate with a hungry koala, you know where to go.

I almost didn't bother with this week's Shameless - it has become entirely too sitcom of late. But with plenty of smack and suicide, this episode has returned to the series' strengths; an unrelenting gaze at the sordid lives of broken people.

I did that poll ages ago, but yes, I should probably have included that option anyway for all the FVCKING GOTHS.

It's more the whole having to watch your friends and family dying around you thing, over and over again. Anyway, to badly quote Peter Pan - or Charlie in Neighbours yesterday - death would be a fantastic adventure.

In Stoke Newington News: I got sent some GUMPH about BANDS which started off with the lines "Stoke Newington's Most Disaffected Comrades..." and then I stopped reading. Perhaps I should have read on. Perhaps they could have been the new Citizen Smith.

Yes. That's why I said the "new" Citizen Smith. Perhaps this time he could follow George Galloway around various ex-working men's clubs in N14. N14? Is that the right postcode? Isn't that... Wood Green? Oh I don't sodding know. Ask me something about South London postcodes and I might be of use.

I was completely taken aback by seeing Blackadder on TV last night. One of my favourite episodes and fortunately I was able to catch Flashheart's entry(ooo, pardon).

I think I read about the Parkland Walk recently, does that go through the grounds of Alexandra Palace? There's also the New River Path which runs near my house which actually starts in Hertford and ends in Islington.

I've got a plan. And it's as hot as my pants.

I don't think it goes to Ally Pally - maybe there's another stretch after a road or something, but the bit I know starts at Finny P and ends just behind the Boogaloo.

And yes, that episode was a pleasant surprise for me too.

"Where havn't I been? Woof!"

Yes, you're right of course. I think I read something about a possible rail extension up to Alexandra Palace sometime ago which is where I got confused.

Have you not been on it? It runs parallel to Stroud Green Road, then under Crouch Hill.

And surely this one called for the Queenie icon?

Blimey. Bloody 19th century sects. Have they never read Simone de Beauvoir? Sure, immortality has it's upsides, like getting to do the business with a whole multitude of different pretty ladies with changing wardrobes, but inevitably, like Count Fosca, you too will plead for a life that should one day end.

Goths.

I am very upset I missed Shameless. I take it it was wonderful then. I fell asleep like the huge fool I am.

So did I, on Tuesday, but I had already set the video. Go team me!

My main problem with All Men Are Mortal is that I have enough historical sense to already feel Fosca's overwhelming awareness of ultimate futility - but without the benefits. So I really have nothing to lose.

Also, the MacGuffin she uses is ill-considered. He should have been a natural immortal. By making it a potion, implicitly there must (or at least might) be other immortals, or more of the potion - yet Fosca never once thinks to investigate this. Pillock.

Hang on, hang on- is foreplay allowed? If so, I'd happily give up the sechs, well, the intercourse, that is. I wouldn't be bothered living without booze either. I assume your lovéd ones are in on the whole immortality deal then?

Date: 2005-03-03 11:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com
If you can convince them the deal is worthwhile...

The Girlingites slept in segregated dormitories, so that's any form of sechs out, not just the penetration. There was apparently a fair bit of kissing during their services, but that's your lot.

I wish the train still ran, to be honest. It's a pig getting to Muswell Hill, sometimes.
