I have no third line.

John Moore solo was somehow not what I expected at all, even though I couldn't tell you what I was expecting; still very good, though, and I'm a little peeved with myself over not getting the album.
Following on from my Nikolai Dante gaffe, last night I started explaining my theory about the lyrical import of David Devant's 'Radar' to a friend of Neil's called Mikey - and then suddenly realised why his face was so familiar. Ooops. Still beats explaining the pre-Crisis DC multiverse to complete strangers, though. As before, I blame the organic cider. Clearly it is not just booze on which I thrive, but the unique harmony between booze and chemical impurities.

The nice man at the publisher sent me a second copy of the new Richard Morgan yesterday, the first having disappeared before I ever saw it. There is still no copy in my possession. So yeah, I want to sing a hymn to the postal service - but it's one of the nasty old Isaac Watts hymns about what happens to bad boys and girls when they die.

Meanwhile, in the Land of the Free: the Virginia state house has voted to outlaw the trend of wearing trousers so low that underwear hangs over the top.

Where is the option for "What you chattin' bout, foo?"?

From: [identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com
Running that through my Street to English translator, I think you want the fourth option.

aye, but I do have feelings on the matter.

Yes, but you'd want that option for every poll!

I'm opposed to this law. If the person in question is a munter you can always look away, can't you.

And if they're not, it's a treat!

They seem to have lost the distinction between point-and-laugh matters and crimes.

Much as I think the baggy pants look is stupid, tht law is far, far stupider.

Microdisney = new obsession = they have my vote. I'm feeling foolish for not searching them out earlier. Curse me and my feckless way of, er, losing the albums of theirs I own and only listening to the few tracks I have on mix tapes.

Didn't you actually fall asleep during John Moore? It looked like it...

Not quite, but tired Alex + organic cider + his strangely soothing voice meant I wasn't far off.

Tough one, but the first album by Microdisney and South African B.astards pip it for me over Fatima Mansions. They had it just right there, after that they went onto a sharp decline (with some exceptions).

And Microdisney did He Descended Into Hell, which is one of my favorite songs ever.

And anyone who has no particular feelings on the matter needs to educate themselves forthwith.

I'll stop going "And..." now.

Manners suggested last night that Microdisney were Scott Walker fronting the Beach Boys, whereas the Fatimas were Scott Walker fronting Rage Against The Machine.
Whereas to me Microdisney sound more like one of those bands who desperately *want* to be the Beach Boys, maybe Teenage Fanclub. And the Fatimas can do the overblown balladry as well as the rage - witness 'Behind the Moon', say.

Perhaps that's true of the later, more polished Microdisney stuff but the on albums I mentioned there's just something about them I just can't quite put my finger on. And Sun has seen more playing time and has said far more to me than any Beach Boys song.

Well observed. Thing is though, wasn't the Beach Boys thing more of Sean's doing than Cathal's? I have some recordings of Sean doing Brian Wilson songs and they're very Brian Wilson.
Likewise with Teenage Fanclub, but Norman Blake is so WRONG when he asserts that The Beach Boys Love You was their greatest ever album, despite the presence of the irresistible "Johnny Carson".

Did you? I check Gmail about once a day for mailed comments and the like.

I don't know when I left. I have a memory that goes: At the Strongroom one minute, Wake up in bed the next.

I disagree, but I do like them. However, the question's not really relevant to a poll on the relative merits of Cathal Coughlan projects, is it?

oh dear. whilst i support anyone in getting some of those fools to pull their trousers up, i think state legislation is going waaaaaaaay too far.

There was a bloke at the cafe last week who practically de-bagged himself in my face....twice! because his trousers were so loose. Although it did provide great comedy watching for Roger, Miriam and myself.

Question: would I like The Vichy Government? As I'm sure you know, they play the Water Rat next...erm... Tuesday, I think.

I think the lyrics would interest you; I'm not so sure whether the music would be your thing. But then it's entirely possible I'm going on quite a one-dimensional assessment of your music tastes, simply because the punky stuff is what you mention most often.
I'm definitely going to the Water Rats show; [livejournal.com profile] rhodri's outfit The Free French are on the bill too.
