Curtains Up On Depravity

alexsarllSo justice was done in yesterday's poll. And, looking back, in the superhero film poll too, where X2 achieved a deserved but deservedly narrow victory. The lesson being that democracy does work, but only when the electorate is screened by some means. I hope that the 'reading Alex's blog qualification' can be imposed on the UK electorate in time for the next parliamentary elections.

dr_shatterhand and several of the Unblogged. The tragedy is that some of the latter have lives which would make for quality livejournal fodder. I mean, one of them has spent the last fortnight at work sitting next to Alan Rickman.
Somethingjamesward said yesterday set me thinking (yes, I know that's not normal). He posted about socks and chip&PIN cards, then complained when all the responses concerned the latter. It occurs to me that this is one of the things I most like about livejournal; one can broadcast on various topics, and people are then free to discuss whichever aspects appeal to them. One thus discovers shared interests where one might never have expected them, without ever having to specifically question anyone. Sometimes, the lack of responses on a given topic comes as no surprise (Baron Corvo, the science of martyrdom); other times it's more puzzling (Alan Hollinghurst, seedless grapes). Thinking back, I used to do this even before I was online; I'd drop occasional allusions to something obscure, because if anyone did pick up on them I'd know I'd found a kindred spirit. It's just so much easier this way.
Apparently a gang of black and Asian men have been beating up Jews in Stamford Hill while giving Nazi salutes. If the media want a story about people who have a disgraceful lack of understanding of Third Reich atrocities, why aren't they going with this one?

One of my lurkers has compared my LJ to a newspaper column, and my favourites of those are often the weekly ones with a series of unrelated paragraphs. I feel happier providing something for everyone each time.
