Spotted at Finsbury Park station: elderly nincompoop, forlornly patting his one-day travelcard against the Oyster reader.

Weekend update will follow once I have less than 300 new mails trying to crack my inbox asunder.

They came in before Oysters were on general release, but only a couple of years ago - since I've been in London, certainly.

when I was first in London, we had little paper tickets which you had to show to people. Some of us think the automated barriers are a bit new fangled...

I have seen pictures of those, but never heard a first hand account of their use. Thank you for giving me this connection to the past.

My card for getting into work is an oyster type flashy card but I don't use tubelike transport enough these days to warrant owning an oyster but when I do, I still find myself longing to flash my day travelcard. It's too tempting.

It actually made me a bit tearful. Either, I'm still ill and brain addled or my old man obsessions is getting out of hand.
