Well, at least I eventually got some pop at this Poptimism, and jolly good it was too, but when I thought this might be my first day without chance to update? More dumb optimism there, Alex. Expecting to be too busy dancing, drinking, laughing, loving - but now you're all alone, House Beautiful your only home. Though maybe it's for the best that so far in 007 I'm never so gone as to get in then pass out, or fall asleep on others' sofas; it makes for vastly worse mornings, and the semblance of rock'n'roll is scant compensation for that.

While there's an evil partisan part of me which finds the idea of Borough Market being destroyed rather amusing ("What wonderful local amenities will you brag about now, Southrons?"), on balance I would rather the area not be despoiled by a rail link. So I shall put regional rivalries aside, do my duty by the whole of London, and link to the Save Borough Market campaign. After the Olympic Disaster and the demolition of the Hammersmith Palais were pushed through, heavens know that the conservation of the city could do with a win.

"A French court has ruled against the heirs of author Victor Hugo in their battle with the publishers of a sequel to his classic novel Les Miserables." And quite right too. Copyright already goes far too far in preventing works like this; a novel by a man who died more than 120 years ago should clearly be fair game. Yes, the particular sequel in this case looks like utter tat, but imagine the disastrous effect on such masterpieces as League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - on which note, and courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] seebelow, early details of the third volume are through.

Stunningly good interview (well, more of a conversation really) between Peter Bogdanovich and Clive James, covering the fall of the studio system, the rise of TV, The Cat's Meow, acting, directing, Dean Martin and getting one over on Singapore. Not that I necessarily agree with the anti-blockbuster sentiment unreservedly, but still an extraordinary concentration of wisdom. And the line, "I just want to suggest to you that Tales from Hollywood is a fabulous idea for a long-running series" - I wonder if anyone involved with Entourage saw that and thought 'it is, isn't it?'
