she nuthin' but a orangutan-hair ho
May. 27th, 2004 12:49 pmAs all readers of livejournal are doubtless aware by now, Scarlet's Well last night were marvellous; I really must track down their other albums. Not that I can afford them but when a band is so ridiculously suited to me, such concerns are secondary. The more I hear of them and the more I hear about them, the more amazed I am I didn't know them before. Were it not that I had dimly heard of the Monochrome Set long ago, I'd suspect I'd slipped between parallels again, as happened with Monkey and
claireybiscuit's eyebrow. For an age-defying post-punk icon Bid was much more human than I expected; the swearing between songs, the forgetfulness of lyrics and so forth were not what I was expecting from a man who looks and sounds like a high priest of an elder god. He also seemed to get a little peeved at times that
martylog and his monocle were getting more audience attention than he was...
dickon_edwards, meanwhile, donned a top hat which, unlike 99% of top hats in modern Britain, looked right at home, in so far as it made him look like a citizen of the Necropolis Litharge, or at the very least of a Victorian funeral parlour.
(Birthday girl
serious_k and LJ addict
drummygirl were also on top form from what I could see, but given they were in the back row, that was less than I could see of the above-named and the disturbingly familiar-faced Alice.)
More of this sort of thing, please, ideally at somewhere less heated than the Spitz. The Hawksmoor opposite, perhaps?
There really wasn't as much LJ filth on my day off as I'd been led to expect. Unless I'm not in the filters, which, given the existence of poll answer 'I Am Barry', would be puzzling.
I've had spam asking if I wish to buy Soma. O brave new world, that has such emails in it...
