I'm normally against the death penalty. But when people commit their crimes incotrovertibly and in full view of the world because they think they're beyond anyone else's power, the usual element of doubt no longer applies.
Hell, yes. I just refer to the way he seems in total denial of the change of situation. "I am still your president" etc... Wonder which of his henchmen will take on the Elena mantle and tell the jury or judges that they are still his children...
Well, quite. So one wonders whether all those Stop The War posters calling Bush and Blair the real criminals, or calling for regime change in London and Washington, didn't emphasise that Saddam was also a criminal, and that Baghdad also needed regime change.
Because if x and y say 'z is a criminal', then saying 'x and y are the real criminals' necessarily implies that those other than x and y, and z in particular, are not criminals.
I find the whole thing mildly amusing. It's simply a challenge between two authorities, Saddam's own authority under which it becomes a theatre, and the authority of those holding a gun to his head.
How would their "fvcking up" make him innocent of genocide and murder against the Kurds, Shi'Ites, Marsh Arabs etc, and war crimes against Iranians and Kuwaitis?
It might turn out to be some sort of elaborate farce in the Ealing Style with Saddam as the lovable scamp who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and whatever he did to try and fix things simply got in more and more scrapes, as the real criminals frame him, but it`ll all turn out alright in the end and he`ll get the girl. Perhaps a bit like the so so Steve Coogan fillum "The Parole Officer"
Although it is of course more likely that the B*st*rd will hang for his crimes.
