The key factor in many of the things that most annoy me at the moment is an unjustified sense of entitlement. Promoters who think their night naturally deserves a listing in every magazine. Tramps and thieves who think they have a right to other people's money. Drivers who think they have a right to go through red lights.

In a sense I'm no better, because I think that morally I have the right to gut all of the above like fish. But at least I'm pragmatist enough to realise that the logistics are not currently in place.

Since having my iriver, ie something worth nicking, I've been more aware of getting robbed and I feel exactly the same - 'how dare they??'. In fact, I have this whole heroic spiel in my head, how it would play out if some oik came up to me, gestured at my expensive equipment (hur) and said 'hand it over'. 'Why? Why should I hand this over to you? I worked hard to earn enough to buy this, and you think you can just take it from me? Do I look that stupid?'. We all know what I'd really do, don't we.

I've so jinxed myself now. Touching wood (hur) all over the place.

He's not a prolific commenter or replyer to comments though, is he. Scum like us might use livejournal for tossy asides and inane banter, but for old Dicko it's more like a real diary where he writes things which are genuinely intended to be read and re-read, so it's reasonable enough to ask people to contribute, I suppose. Now if I started asked for donations in order to read some toss knocked off in 10 minutes they'd have cause for complaint. In fact they complain when it's free. This country.

No, that's entirely different - that's brazen. "I want you to give me money for no very good reason, but will not get shirty if you don't". I know a chap called Nick (no, not Nancy) who's an established master at that, and I admire it. See also: linking Amazon wishlists from your info page.

Entitlement sucks.

Bands that think they deserve to get signed just because they write some average songs and make it into a practice room once a week. Then get dissillusioned when they don't.

Oh yes. And get p1ssy should anyone give them a bad review. "Well at least we got out there and made some music." Yeah? You made some awful music. I didn't. Thus I'm better than you, you twits.
