Well, if she did turn blood red last night, I missed it; all we seemed to get was a slightly distorted version of her normal phases, though obviously at a vastly increased speed. But then no one ever claimed she was constant. Well, except Alexander Pope, and he was a bitter, malformed moron.

The Parkland Walk didn't get me off my face like it did on Beltane but, mud notwithstanding, remains the most pleasant way by far to reach the Boogaloo. The only question being whether I should even have been headed there in the first place, given our frankly dismal performance in the quiz.

Shaun of the Dead fans: I note that the Winchester has a quiz on Thursdays. Does anyone fancy attending that at some point? Because apart from anything else I don't think I can show my face at the Boogaloo's again.

Shariah TV actually managed to appal me even more than I'd expected, which is saying something.

I keep meaning to go to the Boogaloo via that route, but Tuesdays always seem to bring torrential rain. Ever since I started going to the quiz that is...
Dammit, my weather powers are trying to tell me something, yes?

If that was a lunar eclipse, don't bother telling me when the next one is. It's coming to something when gazing at a piece of paper with a minute picture of Michael Nyman on it is more appealing than one of our solar system's natural wonders.

I mean, come off it, the picture featured a bald guy with glasses, fer chrissakes.

Well, it's one of those hotel bars that's open to the public as a pub too.

I see. And that's the one they used in the movie?

(Sorry if I sound like a slow spazz, it's just that someone told me that the Winchester didn't exist and was just built as a set for the film.)

The interior may well have been a set. The exterior was filmed in New Cross (because the simplest way to create the effect of North London ravaged by shambling hordes of the undead is to go to South London). But the film is set in Crouch End and Highgate, and the Boogaloo, next pub along from the Winchester, is also mentioned (under its old name The Shepherds).

Isn't the Winchester in some sort of horrid New Cross ghetto, though?

However, given that I shall shortly be residing Sarf of the Rivah myself, perhaps a period of acclimatisation might be in order...

So, when/where's this quiz then?

yeah, I saw that.
It was the different interpritations of the word 'neccecary' that get me..
surely if one shouldnt frequent pubs unless 'neccecary' then it should be 'neccecary' in the same way in which living in a non muslim country is alowed if 'neccecary'.
& telling people to go in council housing rather than get a mortgage even if they can afford one.
I gave up in disgust & went to bed after that one.

I know I dislike monotheism in general, & wanna be the first catholic excomunicated for the arien herasy for 1700 years, but I feel sort of guilty about how much of a problem I have with Islams existance. I keep trying to find some way of understanding it so that I can accept it, but every time Im disapointed.

Think of each century in a religion's life as a year in a human life. Chritianity's 20 - not quite a grown-up, but basically human. A bit annoying sometimes, but you can live with it. Islam's 14. Exactly at the low point of the 'no one understands me, I hate you all' stage.
600 years ago, Christianity was no better.

Should I ever remember my magic word, I'm taking the idols back to the Ka'aba.

The Winchester pub in Highgate played no part in Shaun. The inspiration was The Shepherds. The location was New Cross and Ealing Studios.
What's the quiz? Is it general knowledge?

Date: 2004-05-05 03:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barrysarll.livejournal.com
I really don't get this...mentioning The Shepherds as a double-blind, for legal reasons or whatever, fair enough. But when it is, in real life, just along the road from a pub called The Winchester...well, why that name?

Quiz type not specified on board, presumably general knowledge.

Date: 2004-05-05 04:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oneofthose.livejournal.com
No legal reason, just the way fiction works. The pub in the film is The Shepherds. Simon never drank in The Winchester but it has a more useful name script-wise because it explains why there might be a gun above the bar. If it had been The Shepherds they'd have had to kill zombies with a crook or something else sheep related.
All the names, both of places and people, are real - even if the actual locations and characters don't bear any resemblance and didn't influence the creation. I think this is so nothing sounds 'made-up'.
