I'm still parsing your first sentence for its full ramifications, but I think you may be on to something. There have been plenty of pleasant enough songs released, but that hasn't detracted from an overall sense that taken as a whole, music Could Try Harder.
Nostalgia...I don't know, in some ways I think I'm more resistant to it than most. I've been ignoring the siren call of the reunion circuit, say. Indeed, I've not even been finding the idea that seductive that it takes much resisting.
