Because there is going to be a Shock! Reveal! that OMG ALIENGS are behind it all, which will be surprising to US viewers unfamiliar with the details of the series premise, of whom apparently there are depressingly few tuning in? I mean, yes, long arc storytelling is all well and good, but could they not have taken a hint from both modern Who and other US cable dramas and had side-stories along the way?
