Too aniseedy. So is a lot of the green stuff nowadays, but this was more so.

I think Wagner was the one to introduce the idea of the Dutchman being redeemed by love to a legend which had previously been more a ghost story and a warning against blasphemy, so it sort of does...

I think I first heard of it via Select, back in its nineties glory days, covering a queercore band called Sister George, whose inspiration sounded a lot more exciting than they were.
