Sort of, but I took that as a homage to all the classic gothic novels which end with similar cop-outs (The Manuscript Found In Saragossa has one which is particularly egregious). For me, anyway, the cop-out doesn't stay with you enough to seriously inhibit all the bad craziness you've gone through by that point.
