Given how much music means to me, I've long been saddened by my name's absence from it. While the Alices and the Johns and even the bloody Jeans got all the action, the only Alexander was a beetle in a rather substandard Melanie song. No more! My thanks, then, to The Arcade Fire for 'Neighborhood #2 (Laika)'. That they also sound like Bright Eyes covering New Order makes this particularly sweet.

Franz Ferdinand fans! I read in the NME* that the album by Alex's previous band, the Karelia, is to be re-issued. Obviously I bought it the first time round, because I'm that cool, so if you want a taster I'm sure to play a track from it at Love Your Enemies this Sunday (/plug).

Last night I realised that with a little tweaking one of my dad's theories demonstrates an intrinsic connection between homo sapiens' position as dominant species, and the tendency to webskive. Now, even as it stands this is a powerful argument against the complaints of parents and employers, but apply a little Science! and it demonstrates that those of us who webskive most are in fact the master race. Result!
(While pondering evolution and invention along these lines over breakfast, I felt a moment of desolation as I realised that generations must have lived and died without ever knoowing toast.)

Turned on the TV this morning to see someone I used to fancy at university talking about flirtation. That was weird.

Some more questionable answers; if your name's not down, expect mail later.

[livejournal.com profile] hairyears: Not to the best of my knowledge.

[livejournal.com profile] p_dan_tic: I'd really rather not think about it in that level of detail.

[livejournal.com profile] my_red_dream: Alas, my powers can be erratic; right now they're not even managing to summon my copy of the new Richard Morgan.

[livejournal.com profile] katstevens: A few, but they're easily ignored; action would be more trouble than it's worth.

[livejournal.com profile] miss_newham: Hmmm. I'm not sure if I want to see the evidence or not.

*Look, it had a very nice picture of Brandon Flowers on the front, and it's not like I paid for it, OK?

well, bread and fire have been around for quite some time. I would postualte that more generations have experienced, or at least have had the potential ability to experience toast than have died without knowing such pleasures. Which is an altogether more warming way to look at it.

That's only if I can tear myself away from Alex K's pretty face.

No. But now I feel I should; they're intermittently rather good. WHY DID METALHEADS NOT BRING THIS TO MY ATTENTION SOONER?

And of course there are more people alive than dead, so the majority of humanity is now eligible to eat toast. I do hope that the American quest to civilise the world makes sure to take toasters as well as democracy to all.

Consider yourself lucky. I've only got Que Sera Sera, or if you really want to go down that route, Sarah by the Fat Tulips. Pushing it - everything on Sarah records. Pushing it further, Sarah = Princess apparently so anything by Princess Superstar. MORE SONGS ABOUT SARAHS PLEASE.

Perhaps I'll wear my Karelia tshirt on Sunday.

Or perhaps not.

While I'd rather have the album to work from, even without it I'd still have the singles!

Oh, there must be other Sarah songs! Though admittedly none spring instantly to mind.

Also, Alexander Graham Bell by The Sweet.

But lest people be fooled by this, let us all remember that your name is Barry, and ever so shall be.

SEE! I assume you could be BORING and run it through Google and output some Sarah songs that no-one has ever heard of EVER but they so don't count. Sarah is a name SHUNNED by pop music!

Oh, hang on.

Of course it does. Cuh.

Captain’s hair
Shone softly in the sun
Rode on his best mare
To sarah

Schoolboy eyes
Would stare in innocent fun
Never told no lies,
He loved sarah

Whispered by a bramble,
Carried by a brook
To every fishers hook,
Sarah

Fragrant fields
Playing croquet in the sun
Nothing appeals
Like sarah

>>there are more people alive than dead

Really? In a Notes & Queries book i recently read somebody asked if this was the case and the answer was that the dead outnumber the living something like 7-1.
