What is August for if not for drinking Pimm's on a lawn and listening to birds? It's certainly not for watching TV, a point the networks seem keen to emphasise by showing glitterphobics (BURN THEM) and Vince from Queer as Folk devolved into a bitter, Gallagher-esque pathologist.

Further to yesterday's Tenth Planet news, it seems [livejournal.com profile] augstone isn't the only one who wants to strip Pluto of planet status. Though I'm not impressed by the reference to "Pluto, whose status as the furthest planet from the Sun has been enshrined in accepted thought since it was identified in 1930." Well, except that during some of that time it has been closer in than Neptune.

For Firefly fans, courtesy of the V - Nathan Fillion *is* Mal Reynolds.
(The best bit is that he's not even his own mum's favourite character, poor sod)

Librarians of my friendslist, unite and take over - you have nothing to lose but your own imminent loss of free will. Part of what I treasure about Islington libraries in particular is that not just the service, but each individual library, has stock with a distinct character; N4 tries just a little too hard, North is good for cult stuff, and South...well, South just isn't worth visiting, for me, but I'm sure there are some peons for whom its selection is ideal. And now they advocate giving the whole country the same books? Well, I suppose it's good news for D*n Br*wn, Tony Parsons and the chicklit queens, but what of the rest of us?

I do hope that plastic merlot will understand, but it's so hard to get hold of. Sometimes I just need someone I can find. Hence, plastic cabernet.
