I love new pubs full of pretty girls where my bag still gets a reaction, and multiple CCPs on a schoolnight, and texting old acquaintances on other people's phones (though the last only as a spectator sport). What I dislike, though, is failing to turn off my light or shut my curtains before I fall asleep, and hence sleeping the fitful sleep of the damned. Meaning that today I find my senses inherently alarming. Somehow I never really registered before how peculiar it is that different information really does come into your head via different places on your head. Try concentrating on it for a little while, realising that the sounds are coming from either side, the visuals from the front and the smells from a little lower down. How do they all get joined up?

The sensory weirdness is getting worse. I've lost all ability to tune out ambient noise and chatter. This leaves me obliged to follow every conversation in the office, and while I can multitask pretty well, there are limits.

Oh, and if anyone doesn't know yet, and is fed up with trying to read between the lines of the 'Bragg says Blair nearly quit for family' stories - Tony's daughter tried to kill herself and it all got hushed up.

"The prime minister has told parliament a violent video game - blamed by some for the death of a Leicester boy - should not be used by children." Yes, which is why it was rated 18*. So all the PM has *actually* said is that the existing laws should have been enforced. Which seems to me to be stating the bleeding obvious, no?

As for my heightened senses - why did today have to be the day everyone in the office felt like Doritos and/or cheese&onion pringles? B@st@rds.

*Though - and this cannot be said too often - the victim owned the game, not the killer. And the police and judiciary have dismissed all suggestions of any link between game and crime.
