They put a hot wire to my head
Mar. 16th, 2004 11:16 amThe Tube this morning was literally nightmarish. Trains are due in two minutes, then the time indicator goes blank, and then some time later the time reappears as two minutes. Stations are allegedly closed and then the train stops there. Nothing is consistent. If I'd found myself alighting from the Victoria line at Ladbroke Grove I'd not have been all that surprised. A little queasy, perhaps, but only in the same way as all the 'keep your bags with you' announcements were making me queasy anyway. It didn't help that A Fairly Honourable Defeat was at a phase of mounting panic and gathering storms, some of them on the Underground. Or that there was a demonstrably antisocial Muslim in the carriage (granted, she was just failing to move down the carriage to let more people on, but once someone has crossed that line...)
Part of me wishes something would hurry up and happen just to disperse this dreadful tension.
